Empowering Innovation and Education in AI and Cancer Research Through IMS-Led Summer Schools

This year 2025, the IMS Laboratory had the pleasure of hosting two of the noteworthy Bordeaux Summer Schools; high-quality research-oriented courses that target international talents.

Each year, the University of Bordeaux offers a dynamic and multidisciplinary series of Bordeaux Summer Schools, bringing together graduate students, doctoral candidates, post-doctoral fellows, researchers, and professionals from around the world.

Held between May and July, these highly selective programs combine cutting-edge research training with hands-on learning in a variety of fields. Hosted on-site in Bordeaux, the summer schools foster international collaboration, academic excellence, and exposure to renowned innovative research environments in one of France’s most vibrant academic hubs.
The IMS Laboratory had the honor of co-organizing, hosting, and leading two of them this summer.

Energy efficient embedded artificial intelligence

The 2nd edition of the « Energy efficient embedded artificial intelligence » (E3AI) course was designed to bridge the skill gap between embedded technology and artificial intelligence applications, by exploring hardware-related aspects of neural networks and equipping participants with the necessary practical tools and foundational knowledge for their implementation.

  • Scientific committee: Cristell Maneux, Nicholas Barrett, Ian O’Connor, Stefan Slesazeck and Jens Trommer
  • Organizing committee: Cristell Maneux, Alexis Tardif and Nicolas Guegan

Innovative technologies and clinical applications in cancer research

The « Innovative technologies and clinical applications in cancer research » program addressed the critical need to advance biomedical tools for cancer diagnostics and monitoring therapeutic responses. Participants gained interdisciplinary skills and connections essential for contributing to cutting-edge cancer research and its clinical translation.
It also emphasized career development, with guidance on entrepreneurship and intellectual property management to drive innovation, as well as raising awareness of gender equity in academia and industry.

Both summer schools included: high-quality tutorials, plenary lectures, practical workshops, roundtable discussions and poster sessions. The perfect opportunity to learn from internationally recognized experts and engage in valuable networking.
