THESIS DEFENSE of Gabriel TATON - December 10, 2025

Gabriel TATON will defend his thesis on December 10, 2025 at 2:00 pm in the amphitheater JP. DOM of the IMS Laboratory, on the subject: “THz spectroscopy by photo-mixing of optical chirped pulses on photo-conductive antennas”.

The terahertz (THz) range corresponds to frequencies located between the microwave and optical domains. This intermediate nature gives THz waves unique physical properties, with strong potential for telecommunications and non-destructive imaging. One of the most common THz sources is the photo-conductive antenna, an electro-optical component that converts optical excitation into a THz wave. The research presented here proposes a new optical excitation method based on a process known as photomixing, which reduces the risk of damage along the optical path upstream of the antenna, while providing greater control over the characteristics of the emitted THz wave. These advances are expected to pave the way for improved integration of photo-conductive antennas and for the emission of higher THz power.
