The IMS Laboratory and Stellantis renew their collaboration for another 4 years!

In January 2025, Stellantis, SANPSY, and the IMS Laboratory officially signed the renewal of their joint research structure on automotive innovation for an additional 4 years.

The OpenLab ESA@Bordeaux (Electronics and Systems for Automotive) was established in 2011.
Today, it brings together the expertise of Stellantis, researchers of the IMS laboratory, and the Sleep, Addiction, and Neuropsychiatry unit (SANPSY) to drive innovation in the automotive sector.

The main objectives of this initiative are to:

  • Enhance and consolidate expertise and excellence by fostering reflection, training, and research collaboration;
  • Build a shared vision and define an ambitious research strategy that leads to breakthrough innovations and high-impact publications;
  • Develop scientific skills by promoting interdisciplinary exchanges between researchers, engineers, postdoctoral fellows, and students.

In January 2025, the partnership agreement was renewed for the third consecutive time, reflecting the mutual trust uniting its partners. This renewal highlights the essential role of interdisciplinary collaboration in advancing research excellence and marks a new step in a shared ambitious innovation journey, addressing the challenges of the future of mobility.

The OpenLab ESA@Bordeaux focuses on:

  • Hybrid and electric vehicles
  • Embedded electrical and electronic components and systems
  • Design and control of powertrain components
  • Suspension technologies, active safety, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems and Connected Autonomous Vehicles
  • Human factors in automotive systems

Since its creation, the OpenLab has consistently expanded its activities, with an average of 4 new projects each year. Approximately 3 CIFRE theses are supported annually, while an average of 13 publications is produced each year. Additionally, around 3 patents are filed annually, reflecting its dynamism and commitment to innovation.

The OpenLab ESA is a joint research structure of the University of Bordeaux, with CNRS and Bordeaux INP as additional institutional partners, and Stellantis.
