Double award recognition for the IMS Laboratory’s Bioelectronics research group at BioEM 2026

Bernard Veyret and Rosa Orlacchio each won an award at the BioEM 2026 conference in Cairns, Australia, this june.

Bernard Veyret received the d’Arsonval Award, the most prestigious distinction from the BioEM Society

This award recognizes Bernard’s outstanding achievement in research in bioelectromagnetics and practical application of electromagnetic fields for human benefit, through his 50+ year scientific career.

Bernard Veyret obtained his doctoral degree from the University of Bordeaux in 1983. He became Director of the Bioelectromagnetism Laboratory of École Pratique des Hautes Études in 1997, before joining the IMS Laboratory upon its inception in 2007, as head of the bioelectromagnetism research team. That same year, he received the annual award (CNFRS medal) from the French section of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI). In 2012, he was promoted to First-Class Research Director of CNRS (French National Research Center) before retiring in 2016. Within the IMS Laboratory, his work focused on the biological effects of electromagnetic fields. Since, Bernard continues to collaborate with the laboratory’s Bioelectronics research group.

Rosa Orlacchio received the Young Scientist Award in Bioelectromagnetics

This award recognizes exceptional achievements by early-career researchers who demonstrate innovation, scientific excellence, and significant potential within the field of bioelectromagnetics.

Rosa is an Associate Professor at École Pratique des Hautes Études and works in the IMS Laboratory’s Bioelectronics research group. Her research explores the interaction between electromagnetic waves and living matter, addressing both environmental risks and the development of novel therapeutic approaches. In particular, she investigates the use of ultrashort electrical pulses for applications such as cancer treatment and brain stimulation.
Rosa was selected by the BioEM Society Board for her outstanding scientific contributions, originality, and the quality and impact of her research.

The IMS Laboratory is proud to support such remarkable work. It is a real pleasure to see the scientific dedication of these two members rewarded with well-deserved recognition.
