Circuits And Systems

Présentation
L’équipe “Circuits and Systems” (CAS) mène des activités de recherche en conception de circuits intégrés. Elle est animée par Dr. François Rivet avec un effectif de 3 enseignant-chercheurs, 4 doctorants, 1 ingénieur contractuel et 2 étudiants de master.
 
L’équipe CAS oriente sa recherche vers des applications telles que:
  • les communications (télécommunications civiles et communications intra-corporelles)
  • l’aéronautique et l’espace (télécommunications militaires, fiabilité des circuits et durcissement aux radiations)
  • la bio-électronique (interface électronique des capteurs et propagation des ondes dans le corps humain)
 
L’équipe CAS développe des méthodologie dédiées à ses activités de recherche:
  • “Design by Mathematics”: architectures d’émission/réception sans fil de rupture (débits très élevés, très faible consommation, bas coût pour marchés de masse)
  • “Design for Avaibility”: fiabilisation des circuits électroniques par détection de fautes, durcissement aux radiations
  • “Design for Human”: conception de circuits destinés à être implantés dans le corps humain (contraintes de consommation, rayonnement, sécurité de l’information)
 
L’équipe a des collaborations pérennes industrielles (STMicroelectronics, Thales, CEA-Leti) et académiques (Monash University, Victoria University, Australie et Universidade Federal do Parana, Brésil).
 
Les technologies utilisées sont nombreuses (65nm CMOS STM, 28nm FDSOI STM, 65nm CMOS TSMC, 0.18um UMC) et sont utilisées avec une grande expertise dans la conception de circuits électroniques radiofréquences (PLL, DLL, VCO, SASP, RF-ADC, Walsh Tx, Riemann Pump, OPA, LDO, TIA, BandGap, BIST, BISC).

PhD Scholarship in CAS
Circuits and Systems Team at IMS Laboratory offers positions to PhD students who wish to prepare a thesis after completing their postgraduate studies (Master by course or by research). These students are enrolled in a doctoral program and assigned to IMS laboratory under a three-year contract.
 
Circuits and Systems Team works on Radio Frequency Integrated Circuits design. Our research is mainly co-funded by industrial collaboration (STMicroelectronics, Thales, CEA …) and french research agency. Our proposed scholarships are focused on:
  • frequency synthesis
  • software radio Rx system (0 to 5GHz)
  • mmW transceiver design (70GHz)
  • analog circuit reliability (RadHard) 
 
Selected candidates will:
  • be enrolled in a doctoral program during 3 years,
  • have a research project,
  • have a partner (company, regional government, other organization) committed to co-fund their scholarship
 
A contract is drawn up between the partner and University of Bordeaux, determining how research will proceed, and including provisions for publications and industrial property. The stipend of the scholarship  is around 1500€ per month for 3 years, plus travel  funds for attending conferences.
 
We are looking for a highly-motivated, dedicated candidate who meets the following requirements:
  • An excellent  Honors  (1st  class)  or equivalent degree  (Masters)  in Electrical engineering or a closely related field,
  • Very good knowledge in electronics, programming and math skills are a plus,
  • Very good communicative skills in English, both in speaking and in writing,
